Gould Park will get its playground this year!
Good news!
Mayor Rossillo has confirmed that the matching grant funding from Westchester County is still in place despite the pandemic. Bidding will begin shortly, and the main play structures and swings will be installed in October. A nature play area with wooden play structures can be installed even earlier, because it is more cost effective to install it outside the scope of the main contract.
Governor Cuomo recently announced that municipalities may reopen playgrounds as soon as they deem prudent, so it is possible that we’ll be enjoying some of these new structures before the summer is out!
Volunteer
If you are interested in volunteering your time to help with a “community build” of the nature play area, please sign up here.
Invest in our community
If you are able, please also consider making a monetary donation, as an investment in our community.
We know playgrounds may not have been foremost on people’s minds recently and that there are many other causes worthy of support at this moment in particular. We also recognize that families in our community may be struggling and not in a position to make donations at all. Regardless of whether you are able to make a donation, we hope that the new playground will be a source of pride and a boost to all of our morale as we overcome the pandemic. We are excited to be creating this inclusive common space for every child--and indeed everyone--in our community to enjoy for years to come.
Before the pandemic, we had raised $20,000 out of our goal of $50,000 to capture the entire County match. We no longer expect to be able to meet our initial goal, but even a modest increase before the contract is awarded in July could allow the Village to purchase an additional piece of equipment (like a net climber) or to materially improve the nature play area.
No donation is too small. To date, donations have ranged from $10 to $4,000.
Giveaways
A number of small businesses have contributed donation incentives, including gift certificates, jewelry, and a scarf. Each of the first 9 people to make a donation of any size will receive one of these gifts (and the first to donate gets first choice). We thank Made by RK Catering & Events, Rochambeau Wine & Liquor, Scribble Art Workshop, Sushi Mike’s, Sam’s Restaurant, Fiamor Boutique, Audrey’s Pop-up Shop, Loretta’s Mane Station, and Yuriy’s Barber Shop for their support!
You can make an online donation here and the time will be recorded. If you plan to make a donation by check or cash, please submit a pledge here, mail in the check with this form, and we will count the time of the pledge as the time of the donation.
